Description
This blog is where One Term Tories is uploading all the .PNG cutout files (transparent) we create. It will be an absolute boon for all meme-makers and graphic designers.Feel free to download and use images from this blog when you want to create your own memes, but want to save time by not having to do the cutouts.
Cutouts can be overlaid on background images and even themselves to create all sorts of interesting artwork.
Warning - get the right files!
NB: The blog posts themselves show THUMBNAILS of the images. These are not the full size and you shouldn't directly download these, otherwise you'll lose quality. You want the BIG pictures. To get the full size images, the simplest way is the right-click and then choose "Save TARGET As...". Some browsers (eg Chrome) have this as "Save LINK As..." or "Save IMAGE As..." Same thing.
You can also click on the image, and the blog will open a large overlay window and display it full-size. If you're looking at it in a dark background full-sized window, then you can download that full-sized image by using a right-click and "Save IMAGE As".
Finding stuff
The images are arranged in sections under fictitious dates. This means we can always keep the listings in alphabetical order, it certainly doesn't mean the images were uploaded on any particular date. The most powerful way of finding stuff is to go straight to the blog search facility in the right-hand column fourth second gadget frame from the top following the pages listing.
It's powered by Google but only searches on this site. This means you can use all the Google search tricks, such as adding a minus sign in front of a search term to exclude it, using "inverted commas" so it'll match word-for-word what's between them and a +PLUS sign with the word in block caps (no space between) so that term MUST be in the results.
You can also simply just open up a particular section using the triangle bullets ( ‣ ) and browse the listings. If you click on an individual post, then you can use the older post or newer post buttons at the bottom of each page to navigate through, one post at a time.
However, maybe a better way to browse is to click on the section heading above the individual post lists and that way the posts will display in batches of about five at a time before you'll need to use the older post or newer post buttons.
What's now online
Currently images are being frantically added, and it's a big job.I started the blog by adding approximately 900 cutouts of mainly Australian politicians, but also the occasional international politician, plus a few celebrities to boot (if you include Oscar Pistorius and Ivan Milat as celebrities).
There'll be more general cutouts added as time goes by. I still have many many other transparent images in what I call my "MemeFactory" directory. Roughly 5 gigabytes, in fact.
In addition, despite such a huge library to draw on, I still end up having to cut out maybe half a dozen or a dozen new images a week to create the right meme for the story, including politicians, of course, but also general items. Household goods, cars and trains, technology and who knows what.
Assistance
It's a big job, and if I can get help then the site will get so much better.Firstly, if you've got images you'd like added to the site, well, the more the merrier. See below for how to best contact me.
Be aware there's no way you can transfer transparent .PNGs via Facebook. It will place a white background under them, and a later user has to cut them out again (groan). It'll also compress the hell out of them so you lose clear edges, the colour bleed becomes dreadful and they get heavily pixelated.
So files will have to be transferred in their native format.
Perhaps if you have a proper photos sharing site (not Instagram), or even a Blogger blog like this you can upload them there and I can download them.
You can email them to me (I'll give you my address if required) but there's normally a 10 or 20 meg limit on an email which means you'll fit maybe half a dozen files per message given the bigger size of .PNGs. A possibility, however even if you have to send multiple messages.
You could also simply burn a CD or DVD and post it to me, and that may well be the best way for a large number of files.
Finally, but more importantly, if anyone's interested in being a co-admin for the site on Blogger - this service - then I'd really love the help and with more than one person working at the site it will be so much better. You'll need a Google+ account for start (which you need for YouTube and other things anyway).
Copyright
Yeah, I know, I know, I didn't take all the pictures (although some of them are my originals), and as a photographer I know the law. If you so strongly object to your copyrighted work being on the site, contact me, and please give me a direct link to the photo and I'll delete it straight away. I hope this won't become a big issue. There's no money involved in any of my activist work as a point of principle (although sometimes I wish there was)!Contact
By far the best way to contact us is to leave a message on the Facebook page One Term Tories. The Facebook link is HERE.
I spend a lot of time on Facebook, so it's going to reach us with the least delay. Email tends to be a thing of the past, and I don't check it anywhere near as often as five years ago.
You can also comment below (and on any blog post here) if you don't mind the messages being public.
